What is the Snap function?

When in the graphical screen the cursor comes near a known point and/or edge, the cursor is automatically moved to that point. It is snapped to that point.

Many well-known drawing packages make use of this functionality. It enables you to select an exact point.

A very handy functionality when drawing or moving a node and/or a member.

Snapsize

The size in mm within which a known point (node / the midpoint of a member / grid line) is searched for. By default the snapsize is set to 150 mm. In general this value suffices.

Snap to node

Setting whether snapping has to take place to the nearest node.

Snap to member midpoint

Here you set whether snapping has to take place to the midpoint of a member. A red rectangle becomes visible when this point is found.

Snap to grid lines/levels

Grid lines and levels can be used. Here you set whether snapping has to take place to the intersections. Nodes follow the grid lines and levels. The node is drawn light grey and follows these lines. At the bottom right of the screen you see the node coordinates. You can place a node graphically very quickly. Naturally you can also change the exact node coordinates numerically afterwards. Double-clicking on the node opens a dialog box. You can also change these node coordinates in the table. You click on the node and the focus is placed directly on the corresponding row in the node table.

Snap to existing coordinate lines

All nodes that have been entered are added invisibly to the grid lines and levels. Snapping to these is possible. This is a very handy functionality. Often the geometry of a structure is regular. Several nodes frequently lie on the same x- or z-coordinate. A structure can be entered quickly and easily.
